Humanitarian mapping activity open to the whole community - no experience required

Please join us on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 4:30pm to celebrate at 茄子视频, part of , with a humanitarian map 'hackathon' and guest speaker Abby Hardy-Moss, Vice President of Stewardship, Planning & Technology at . 

The humanitarian map hackathon is an opportunity to engage in hands-on assistance in the creation of mapping data needed for responding to disasters around the world. This event will use the online platform to address data needs for the catastrophic flooding that hit Kumamoto, Japan in August 2025. Participants will be trained on how to utilize satellite imagery to do the mapping, either on your own laptop or on provided computers. No experience or equipment required!

After the map hackathon, pizza will be provided. 

Our guest speaker will be Abby Hardy-Moss, Vice President of Stewardship, Planning & Technology at . Abby uses geospatial technology to connect people to nature and embed science into Greenbelt鈥檚 conservation work. Abby leads Greenbelt鈥檚 collaborations with municipalities and non-profits on open space mapping and guides the organization鈥檚 climate resilience planning efforts.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Geographical Society.
